Cancun Temperatures & Rainfall: Averages by Month

Here you'll find information on the typical weather for each month in Cancun, Mexico.

There are averages for maximum and minimum temperatures in degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit. These are followed by details about extremes – how hot and cold the beach resort can actually get during each month.

For rainfall in Cancun there are monthly totals of the number of days with wet weather and for the amount of rain it receives. Besides these averages, there are also data on how much a month's precipitation can vary from year to year.

The averages for temperature and rainfall are from weather data collected during 1981 to 2010. The usual ranges for hottest and coldest temperatures and total precipitation are based on the extremes recorded from 1988 to 2011.

The temperature is hot year-round at Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula. Winters are pleasantly so, averaging daily highs of 84 degrees Fahrenheit (29 °C) and lows of 69 °F (20 °C). Summers are less comfortable, with days typically heating up to 94 °F (34 °C) and nights cooling off to 76 °F (25 °C).

How Hot Can Cancun Get?

The temperature usually reaches at least 85 °F (29.5 °C) every month at Cancun. But the vacation resort normally gets no hotter than 106.7 °F (41.5 °C).

This table gives the range for each month of the highest officially recorded temperatures from 1988 to 2011. For example, some Januarys only get as hot as 86 °F, while in other years the month's temperature has climbed as high as 91 °F. Usually the hottest day for any January falls in between those two extremes.

Every month, the temperature at Cancun usually drops to 75 °F (24 °C) or lower. Generally the Caribbean coast city gets no colder than 49 °F (9.5 °C).

Total Rainfall Averages per Month

February, March and April bring the year's driest weather to Cancun, with averages of just 5 days and 1.6 inches (42 millimetres) of rain a month.

The monthly rainfall becomes heaviest during fall, averaging out to 14 days totalling 7.8 inches (198 mm) a month. Usually October is Cancun's rainiest time of year.

The number of rainy days includes those when rainfall amounted to 0.004 inches (0.1 mm) or more.

How Rainy is Cancun?

How much it rains each month at Cancun varies from year to year. To show what's possible, here's the range of total rainfall that's been measured – the driest and wettest per month.

During April, May and August, the vacation destination can go through an entire month without any rain. The rest of the year, Cancun can expect at least a sprinkle of precipitation during each month or as much as 47 inches (1189 mm).
