Rain

In September the rainy season descends upon the Caribbean. Still, there are some dry spots, notably the southern islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao.

Hurricanes and Storms

September is when hurricanes become most active in the Caribbean. Hurricanes are most likely now to approach the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the eastern shores of Dominican Republic. In this region, there's an eight percent chance that a hurricane will come within 165 kilometres of land in September.

Severe stormy weather often hits the eastern Caribbean islands during September, where a named tropical storm arrives about once every five years. Storms are less common farther south.
