Northern Germany

Included here are cities in the states of Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), Saxony-Anhalt (Sachsen-Anhalt) and Schleswig-Holstein.

Central Germany

This section covers the states of Hesse (Hessen), North Rhine-Westphalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen), Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz), Saarland, Saxony (Sachsen) and Thuringia (Thüringen). Besides cities, the list includes Fichtelberg, a high point in the Ore Mountains where the weather station sits near the peak, at 1213 metres (3980 feet) elevation.
